The Blinker Cocktail is a classic rye and grapefruit cocktail from the Prohibition era. Simple, tart, and spicy- the Blinker is easy to shake up at home.
Happy Sunday! Ready for another Sunday cocktail? I hope so, because today I’m bringing you a classic cocktail from the Prohibition era.
The Blinker is super easy to make with ingredients you are likely to already have at home. Like most rye based cocktails, this one has a definite spicy bite. And I won’t lie, this is a very spirit forward cocktail if you make it as I’ve posted it. BUT- like all cocktails you can use the general concept of the Blinker and make it your own. Not a fan of Rye? Try using bourbon or whiskey. Too strong? Try adding more grapefruit juice and grenadine. I’m fairly new to Rye based cocktails, so I added a couple of maraschino cherries to round out the flavor a little (I also just bought a jar of real maraschino cherries, not the bright red chemical-y stuff I usually buy, so I was super eager to eat a few). Whatever you do, just take a moment to relax and savor a classic cocktail.
